Your questions about shop software, answered
Everything shopkeepers ask us before they computerise: what it really costs, whether it works when the internet dies, how udhaar is handled, what hardware you need, and what happens to your data.
Start here
If you only read one thing: shop software should make three numbers trustworthy. What you sold, what you have left on the shelf, and who owes you money. Everything else is detail.
- Cost. Expect roughly Rs. 900 to Rs. 6,000 a month for a cloud system. BazaarMint is Rs. 999 with everything included.
- Hardware. You need nothing but a phone to start. A printer and a scanner are optional and can come later.
- Offline. Insist on it, and test it yourself with aeroplane mode before you pay.
- FBR. Most small shops are not required to integrate. Check the four tests before anyone sells you a compliance package.

What it costs
How much does POS software cost in Pakistan?
Cloud POS subscriptions in Pakistan generally run from about Rs. 900 to Rs. 6,000 per month for one shop. Older one-time-licence desktop software is usually quoted between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 150,000 up front, with a yearly support fee on top. BazaarMint is Rs. 999 per month or Rs. 8,999 per year, with every feature included and no setup fee.
Is there a free trial, and do I need a card?
BazaarMint gives you 14 days free with every feature unlocked, and it does not ask for a credit card to start. You sign in with Google or your phone number and the shop is set up in a couple of minutes. If you do nothing at the end of the trial, nothing is charged.
Are there extra charges for more features or more counters?
Not with BazaarMint. One subscription covers billing, stock, udhaar, suppliers, expenses, staff logins, reports, printing and backups. There is no per-counter licence and no paid add-on modules. When comparing other systems, add up the licence, the yearly support, any per-terminal charge and the cost of getting your data out.
Is free POS software good enough for a small shop?
Free khata apps are fine if all you need is a record of who owes you money. They usually stop short of live stock, supplier purchases, costed profit and staff permissions, and several limit invoice counts or charge for printing and backups. If your shop carries real stock and you want a true profit figure, a paid system normally pays for itself quickly. Compare the real yearly cost, not the headline word free.
What happens if I stop paying?
With BazaarMint an expired shop stays fully readable. You can open the app, look at every sale, customer and report, and print things. Only the actions that record new business are blocked until you renew, so nothing is lost or locked away. You can also take a backup file of everything at any time.
Getting started
Setting up
How long does it take to set up a shop?
The account itself takes a couple of minutes. The real work is entering your products, and how long that takes depends on how many you have. Twenty items takes a few minutes by hand. Two thousand should be imported from a spreadsheet rather than typed. Most shops are billing on day one and finish tidying their catalogue over the first week.
Do I have to enter all my products before I can start?
No. Start with the items you sell most, which for most shops is a small fraction of the catalogue but most of the sales. Add the rest as they come up. There is also a quick-add for ringing up something that is not in the catalogue yet, so an unlisted item never blocks a sale.
Can I import my products from Excel?
Yes. Products, customers and suppliers can all be imported from a CSV or Excel file, and you can download a template with the right columns. An import can be undone for three days afterwards if you bring in the wrong file, which is the safety net that matters when you are moving two thousand rows.
Do I need a computer, or is a phone enough?
A phone is enough. BazaarMint runs in the browser on any Android phone, tablet, laptop or PC, and installs like an app from the browser. Many shops bill from a phone at the counter and use a laptop in the back office for reports, both signed into the same shop.
Can someone help me set it up?
Yes. Email support@bazaarmint.com and we will help you get your catalogue in and your opening udhaar balances right. The setup wizard is built to be done without help, but nobody should abandon their shop software because a spreadsheet import was fiddly.
Day to day
Running the shop
Does it work when the internet goes down?
Yes. BazaarMint is offline-first, which means billing carries on with no connection at all and the sales sync by themselves once you are back online. This is different from cloud software that merely claims an offline mode. Test any system yourself: turn on aeroplane mode, make three sales, reconnect, and check all three arrived with the right stock.
How does udhaar or khata work?
Each customer has a running balance. You can sell on credit, take a part payment now and leave the rest outstanding, and print or share a statement showing every sale and every recovery. You can also see total outstanding across all customers, and which debts are oldest, so you know who to chase first.
Can I see how much profit I actually made?
Yes, and it is the number most shops have never had. Profit is worked out from what you paid for the goods, not just what you sold them for, and it subtracts discounts you gave, items that came back as returns, and your shop expenses. You can read it for today, for a month, or compare periods side by side.
Does it track stock automatically?
Every sale reduces stock as it happens, and every purchase from a supplier adds to it. You set a minimum level per item and get a low-stock alert before something finishes. There is also a reorder plan that works out how fast each item actually sells and suggests how much to buy.
Can I handle returns and refunds?
Yes. A return puts the stock back on the shelf, refunds the money or credits it against the customer balance, and adjusts your profit figure so the reports stay honest. Returns are where weaker software tends to fall apart, so it is worth testing on any system you try.
Can I give discounts?
Yes, on a single item or on the whole bill, as a percentage or as a rupee amount. You can also set standing discount rules, for example a percentage off a category, and the till applies them automatically. If a discount would take a sale below cost, you get a warning but you are not blocked, because sometimes you have a reason.
Does it handle wholesale prices?
Yes. A product can carry a second, lower wholesale price, and there is a switch at the counter that bills a whole cart at wholesale rates. You can also set a trigger quantity so the wholesale price applies automatically once a customer buys enough.
Hardware
Printers, scanners and tills
What hardware do I need to start?
Nothing beyond a phone or computer you already own. A thermal receipt printer and a barcode scanner are both optional and can be added whenever you want them. There is no proprietary till to buy and no hardware you are forced to purchase from us.
Which receipt printers work?
Ordinary thermal receipt printers on 58mm and 80mm rolls. You can print over Bluetooth straight from the app with no bridge app in between, through the RawBT app on Android, or through a normal printer driver on a PC. There is also a full-page A4 invoice option for shops using an ordinary office printer.
Do barcode scanners work?
Yes. USB and Bluetooth scanners that type like a keyboard work with no setup at all, which covers most scanners sold in Pakistan. There is also a camera scanner that uses the phone camera if you do not have a hardware scanner, and it is good enough for a small counter.
Can I print barcode labels for my products?
Yes. You can print barcode label sheets on an ordinary printer using gummed sticker paper, or on a dedicated label roll printer. You choose the label size, how many across the sheet, and what prints on each label, and there is a preview at the real millimetre size before you waste any stickers.
Can I print receipts in Urdu?
Yes. Receipts can print in Urdu, including on a thermal printer, and products can carry an Urdu name that appears on the slip. Your paper width, layout and text size settings all carry across, so the Urdu receipt is the same receipt in a different language rather than a separate document.
Staff, data and rules
Staff, safety and compliance
Can my salesman have their own login?
Yes, and they do not need a Google account or an email address. You create an employee with an ID and a six-digit PIN and they sign in with those on any device. You choose exactly which sections they can see, so a cashier can bill without seeing your profit or your purchase costs, and every action is recorded against their name.
Can staff delete a sale to hide it?
Only if you give them that permission, and even then it is recorded. There is an audit log of who did what and when, covering sales, stock changes, discounts, deletions and more. Most shops give staff billing rights and nothing else, which removes the problem entirely.
Where is my data kept, and is it safe?
It is stored in your own isolated account in the cloud and also cached on the device so the app works offline. Because it is synced, a stolen or broken phone does not take your shop history with it. You can export a complete backup file whenever you want, which is the thing that actually protects you.
Can I get my data out if I leave?
Yes. You can export a full backup file and export products, customers, suppliers and sales to Excel. We think being able to leave is a fair test of any vendor. If a company cannot give you a clear answer to this question, treat it as a warning about everything else.
Do I need FBR-integrated software?
Only if you are a Tier-1 retailer, meaning a brand outlet or chain store, a franchise or authorised brand retailer, a shop inside an air-conditioned mall or plaza, or a business whose electricity bill over the last twelve months exceeded Rs. 1,200,000. Most kiryana stores, small pharmacies, mobile shops and small cafes fall outside all four tests. BazaarMint is not FBR-integrated, so a Tier-1 retailer should buy from an FBR-recognised vendor instead.
Can I run two shops on one account?
No. BazaarMint is one shop per account, with no combined stock or consolidated reporting across branches. You could run a second shop as a separate account and subscription, but the two would not talk to each other. If you need real multi-branch control, choose a system built for it.
Does it work in Urdu?
Yes, the whole app, not just the billing screen. Urdu is set in proper Nastaliq type so it reads naturally, and numbers and prices stay in the digits everyone reads prices in. You can also set the language per employee, so an owner can work in English while a salesman works in Urdu on the same shop.
What if I need help or something breaks?
Email support@bazaarmint.com. The app also keeps working offline while a problem is sorted out, which matters more than it sounds, because a shop that cannot bill is a shop that is losing money that hour.
